POLICE OFFICER - Qualified persons are invited to apply to the New Brighton Borough Civil Service Commission to take competitive examinations leading to eligibility for appointment as a police officer in the New Brighton Area Police Department.  An application form and details of the selection process may be obtained at the Police Department, 610 Third Avenue, New Brighton, PA 15066 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  Completed applications must be returned by 4:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2023, along with a $35.00 application fee payable to the Borough of New Brighton.

 

Requirements:  Residency within a 15 mile radius of New Brighton required within 18 months of appointment.  Applicants must be PA Act 120 certified prior to appointment, possess a High School diploma or equivalent, hold a PA Class C operator’s license or equivalent, be a U.S. citizen, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer, and meet all other Civil Service requirements.

 

The physical agility test and written examination will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 9:00 AM (arrive at 8:30 AM) at the Allegheny County Police Academy, 700 West Ridge Drive (North Park), Allison Park, PA 15101.  Other mandatory components of the exam are an oral examination, a background check, a post offer medical examination, and a post offer psychological examination.  A complete copy of the Civil Service hiring policy is available for inspection during regular business hours at the Police Department.

The Borough of New Brighton offers a competitive compensation package with a 2023 full tier annual salary of $67,893 with negotiated contract increases towards a 2025 annual salary of $72,028.  A modified salary schedule allows for new hires to reach the full tier salary in as few as two years.  Provisions exists for new employees that have previous full time patrol officer experience to receive 1 year credit toward the salary schedule for every 2 years of previous full time patrol officer experience.  Officers are also provided a comprehensive health care package consisting of medical, dental, and vision coverage; generous paid time off; longevity pay; a defined benefit pension; a 4% match towards a 457 deferred compensation plan; a life insurance policy; and 24/7 access to an on-site fitness facility.
